Vintage Aviation Inspired Fashion

datestamp

Who would have thought that aviation wear would one day become high fashion? Not that I don't understand why. I am pretty much loving the vintage 40s aviation feel that is so in right now. It is the perfect combination of glamour mixed with a whole lot of adventure. Who can resist that? I have to say that {without a doubt} Hermes takes the cake with this vintage aviation inspired collection.

Be still my heart.

Weather-proof your Halloween Pennants

halloween picture

Pennants are a really festive {and inexpensive} way to decorate for Halloween. There is nothing cuter than a welcoming porch decorated with pumpkins and pennants.

The problem:

Most pennants are made with fabric or paper...not exactly the best materials to hold up against the elements. Here is an easy DIY way to make weather-proof (except maybe strong wind) pennants for under $10.

Start with 2 vinyl tablecloths. I got mine for $2.50 each at Big Lots!

1

Fold the table cloth in half.

2

Cut a triangle... any size that you desire. Because the tablecloth was folded, you should have two matching triangles.

3

Use the first triangle as a pattern for the rest.

They don't have to be perfect... sometimes a little wonky can be spooky. ;)

Scarecrow Festival in Chappell Hill, TX

Chappell Hill is a tiny historic community in Washington County, Texas. It may be small (approximately 300 people live in the town) but the charm is ginormous. They put on an annual scarecrow festival in which all of the store fronts and homes display a scarecrow of sorts.

It was so festive to drive through.

My favorite display was in front of the church.

Cheesy Corn Potato Chowder

We finally are having our first day of "Fall" weather here in South Texas. Accordingly, I am finally in the mood to make some cool weather food! Cheesy corn potato chowder is my idea of good comfort food and is just perfect with homemade bread or corn muffins.

9

Ingredients:

24 oz Chicken Broth
3 medium to large potatoes, peeled and cubed
3/4 cup diced carrots
1/2 cup diced celery
1/4 cup chopped green onion
1/4 cup butter
2 cups milk
1/3 cup flour
1 15 oz whole kernel corn
1 15 oz sweet cream of corn
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:

Peel and cube potatoes. Chop carrots, celery and onions. In a large pot, add vegetables to 24 ounces of chicken broth.

1

Bring to a boil and then reduce to low heat. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

While vegetables are simmering, combine milk and butter in small sauce pan. Stir constantly, melting butter. Combine flour and stir until thick and smooth.

2

After vegetables are done simmering and once butter, milk and flour mixture is smooth and thick, pour mixture into vegetables.

3

Stir mixture into vegetables and broth.

4
5

Add corn to mixture.

6
7

Add 2 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese.

8

Stir cheese until completely melted.

Add pepper to taste.

Serve hot!
10

This chowder will warm you right up! This recipe makes a whole pot of chowder... enough for the family... or leftovers for the next day.

Enjoy!

Magnolia Pearl at Round Top, TX

Y'all know I love me some originality. I was blown away by Magnolia Pearl at Marburger Farms. Not only was the booth completely enchanting, the clothes were completely unique... completely wearable pieces of art.

A little about Magnolia Pearl's creator, Robin Pearl Brown.

Every piece is reminiscent of another era... so pretty, flowy and feminine. Part hippie, part Victorian, part a style of it's own. All images are click-able and will take you back to the Magnolia Pearl website. Enjoy!
